Modern Calligraphy

Lucy O’ Donovan from Giulo Arts has held Introduction to Modern Calligraphy workshops throughout the year, where the participants are taken through the basic strokes that make up this beautiful script.

There is always such a lovely atmosphere in each workshop as the attendees can just chat away as they are learning a new skill. Using Japanese brush pens and the Giulo Arts workbook, beginning with the basic strokes, they gradually move onto letter connections and some popular phrases they may use in journaling or card making, so they can put their new skills to good use! 

Lucy always puts a focus on the mindful nature of hand lettering, and speaks about it being a moment of pause where you can slow down and take your time. We provided the teas, coffees and hot chocolate and Lucy provided the treats which she says helps with the calligraphy ! It’s so lovely to hear the chats and laughter coming from upstairs during this workshop!
